Jeanna Lurie, E-RYT 500, RPYT
Jeanna Lurie brings nearly two decades of experience working with women and girls to her practice as a Prenatal Yoga Instructor. Her degree in Radio and Television with an emphasis in Media Theory (San Francisco State, 1999) led her to co-develop a program through the San Francisco chapter of the National Organization for Women, which brought media literacy and body image awareness into high school classrooms. While working on this program in 2000, Jeanna became pregnant with her first daughter and realized cultural beliefs about birth and motherhood were very much tied to media messages. By the time her daughter was three, Jeanna’s practice as a Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Prenatal Yoga Instructor was thriving, always driven by the desire to empower women on their journey into motherhood.
The highlights of Jeanna’s training and experience include the following: La Leche League Leader (2002- 2005), Doula and Childbirth Educator trained through ALACE (2003), and Midwifery Level I training at the Farm in Tennessee (2004), Whole Birth Yoga- Pre and Postnatal Teacher Training (2004), Avalon 200-hr Teacher Training (2006), Santa Barbara Yoga Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training (2007), Expanding Light Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training (2007), Nine Moons Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training (2012), Samyama Yoga Center 300-hr Teacher Training, and Pelvic Floor Teacher Training with Leslie Howard (2013 & 2018, certified in 2018). She has worked on projects with authors/ activists Henci Goer and Suzanne Arms to promote normal birth and served as Board President of Bay Area Birth Information from 2005-2008. Her greatest teachers are her children: Jeannessa (2001), Maceo (2008), and Arya (2010).
In addition to her Yoga and Birth services, Jeanna served as the Program Manager of Blossom, a non-profit Resource Center in Palo Alto which supports pregnant and expectant families, from 2007- 2018. Her role at Blossom gave her a unique perspective to offer training and mentorship to aspiring Prenatal Yoga instructors. She is also the creator of Pink and Ruby Tents, special Circles for pre-teen girls and their mothers and teen-aged ladies to celebrate, educate, and reflect on the experience of being female. It is a blessing and an honor to spend her life wrapped in work she loves!
