Lotus Blossom offers a unique and comprehensive training experience for yoga professionals. Moving beyond Yoga Alliance standards, our program includes a minimum of 100 hours of training and one-on-one mentorship addressing both prenatal and postnatal topics.  The workshop portion spans four non-consecutive weekends (approximately 65 hours) opening the door for parents and conventionally employed to participate.  Trainees will fulfill additional requirements of practice teaching, observation, and mentorship (approximately 35 hours scheduled at their discretion) to earn certification. Doulas and other birth professionals looking to enrich their practice with knowledge of prenatal yoga may participate in just the 65 scheduled workshop hours- a strong personal yoga practice and permission of the Lead Instructors is required.

The Yoga Alliance requires a minimum of 85 hours to qualify for the RPYT designation.  For details on how these hours are broken down, please see their website here. Lotus Blossom Prenatal Yoga Training meets these requirements and adds an additional 15 hours to ensure our trainees graduate with the confidence to lead their own successful prenatal yoga business.

Workshop topics include the following:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the pregnant and postpartum mother

  • Yoga asana to promote optimal fetal positioning

  • Alleviating common discomforts of pregnancy

  • Pre and postnatal psychology to support the expectant/new mother

  • Asana practice and modifications to accommodate the pregnant body

  • Understanding and importance of evidence-based/optimal maternity care

  • Managing a successful pre/postnatal yoga business

  • Orchestrating an engaging class

  • Promoting healthy pelvic floor for pregnancy and beyond

  • Using empowering and inclusive language

  • Meditation and relaxation techniques

  • Applying classical yogic philosophy to modern pre/postnatal yoga

  • …And more!

Our hands-on program includes built-in opportunities to connect with and teach expectant and new mothers. Lotus Blossom trainees are welcome and encouraged to schedule additional observation and practice classes beyond the certification requirements. Our graduates leave the program with real-life teaching experience, confident to step directly into teaching their own expectant clientele.

Prerequisites:  For those seeking a career in teaching pre or postnatal yoga, a 200-hour yoga certification, or an imminent plan to obtain one is strongly recommended.  The Yoga Alliance requires completion of a 200-hour certificate in order to apply as a Registered Prenatal Yoga Instructor (RPYT). For birth professionals looking to participate in just the classroom portion, a strong yoga practice of one year or more is required.  If you are unsure if your experience is appropriate for this training, please connect with our directors.
